Rodney B. Johnston, FCPA, FCA
President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Johnston retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (“PwC”) after serving 35 years with the firm, to be a founder and lead Adventus. During his lengthy career with PwC (the final 25 years as a partner), he served in a number of senior leadership roles for the firm, including Canadian Infrastructure & Project Finance Leader, Member of PwC’s Canadian Advisory Leadership Group, Member of PwC’s Canadian Taxation Leadership Group, B. C. Region Advisory Leader and B. C. Region Tax Leader.
Mr. Johnston had a long track record of providing taxation, and financial services to businesses in a variety of industries, and was involved with financings in the capital markets, and was a sought out advisor to businesses going public in the Income Trust market during years 2002-2007.
Mr. Johnston qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and in 2011 he was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. He is a member of the Canadian Council of Public Private Managers, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
Mr. Johnston serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of both Adventus Capital Partners Ltd. (the “Manager”) and the trustee of the Trust and also serves as a Director of both the Manager and trustee of the Trust.
Michael E. Iannacone, CPA, CA
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Iannacone joined Adventus as the Chief Financial Officer, in March 2013; he is responsible for financial reporting and administrative functions. Mr. Iannacone has been a consultant providing financial advisory services to a number of companies in the industrial and resource sectors. Mr. Iannacone has been a CFO or finance director for various companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange and AIM-London Stock Exchange.
In addition, Mr. Iannacone is currently a director of the largest marine bunkering company in the Vancouver Harbour. Mr. Iannacone, has been an instructor and lecturer for accounting courses with the BC Institute of Technology and with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
Mr. Iannacone qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980 while working with Coopers & Lybrand (a predecessor firm to PwC).
His experience with public companies as a CFO plays an integral role in the operations of Adventus.
Mr. Iannacone serves as the Chief Financial Officer of both the Manager and the trustee of the Trust.
Darcy J. Brabbins, BA, MBA
Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Brabbins brings 30 years experience to Adventus in commercial real estate, in various senior management positions at high profile Canadian companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Brabbins consistently demonstrated his abilities to deliver strong results with improved asset performance, effective portfolio management and strategic planning on property acquisitions and dispositions. Mr. Brabbins plays a crucial role in strategic planning to manage our growth.
Mr. Brabbins was with Bentall Kennedy from January 1999 to March 2013, as Regional VP, BC Region. His responsibilities included operations, management and financial performance of a large portfolio of properties. He also took a lead role in due diligence related to new acquisitions, dispositions and major capital projects. Prior to joining Bentall Kennedy, Mr. Brabbins held similar positions and responsibilities with Oxford Development Group Inc., Beutel Goodman Real Estate Group, and Manulife Financial. Since June 2006, Mr. Brabbins has held the positions of President and Vice President of Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA). He has also been a past Director of BOMA Edmonton. Mr. Brabbins has continued his professional development through numerous ICSC, BOMA and other industry seminars.
Mr. Brabbins graduated with a BA from the University of Alberta in 1973, and an MBA from the University of Alberta in 1975. His experience complements the rest of our management team’s expertise and he plays an important role as we add more properties to our portfolio.
Mr. Brabbins provides strategic advice on property acquisitions and sales of our property portfolio.
Rick Charlton, BA (Econ), CPM
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Charlton joined as the Chief Operating Officer in April 2018, and is responsible for the asset management and operational performance of the portfolio. Mr. Charlton has over 30 years of commercial real estate experience.
Prior to joining Adventus, Mr. Charlton held various senior management positions with Great West Life and WAM Development Group, most recently managing a 10 million square foot office, industrial, and retail portfolio valued at $4.5 billion across Western Canada and Texas. Mr. Charlton currently serves on the Government Affairs Committee for the National Alliance of Industrial and Office Properties of Calgary, where he previously served as President and National Director. Mr. Charlton also served as Chairman of the Commercial Committee of the Urban Development Institute in Alberta.
Mr. Charlton obtained his Bachelor of Arts, Economics Major, from the University of Calgary.
Ken Woiden, CPA, CA
Director - Finance
Mr. Woiden joined Adventus in September 2015 and is responsible for overseeing the finance, accounting, and financial reporting functions.
Mr. Woiden spent 4 years with one of the world’s largest marine energy transportation companies, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, where he was primarily responsible for corporate reporting. Prior to that Mr. Woiden spent 4 years providing assurance and advisory services for PwC, where he earned his CA designation in 2010. He also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria.
His strong management and corporate reporting background plays a key role throughout the growth of Adventus.
Vice President - Asset Management
Mr. Wilks is the Vice President of Asset Management, and is responsible for the asset management of Adventus’ Chicago portfolio. Mr. Wilks has 30 years of commercial real estate experience.
Previously, with GWL Realty Advisors ("GWL"), one of Canada’s largest real estate investment companies, Mr. Wilks had regional asset management responsibility for almost $1B CDN of office and industrial properties. Prior to that, as part of GWL's portfolio investment management team, Mr. Wilks served its largest pension fund client on a nation-wide basis, ensuring that fiduciary obligations were being met. Mr. Wilks’ background in valuation analysis has proven advantageous in evaluating proposed investment and lease transactions.
Mr. Wilks obtained his Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Urban Land Economics, from the University of British Columbia.
His institutional investment management experience, coupled with his extensive valuation background, complements our team’s expertise.
Jeniece Thompson, CPA, CA
Ms. Thompson joined Adventus in August 2014 and is responsible for carrying out financial and other reporting functions, accounting and taxation duties, as well as ongoing operational compliance.
Ms. Thompson worked for over three years in the audit and assurance group at PwC, where she obtained her CA designation in 2014. During this time she gained valuable experience working with both large public companies, as well as small owner managed businesses across various industries including construction management and retail.
Ms. Thompson graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with honours from Simon Fraser University in 2011.
Her experience with accounting and financial reporting benefits Adventus in its continuous growth and future endeavors.
Asset Manager - Asset Management
Mr. Cleere joined Adventus in June 2016 and is responsible for managing the leasing, asset management, investment analysis for the current portfolio along with new acquisitions, and project financing.
Mr. Cleere previously spent 5 years working with Colliers International in Dublin, Ireland and Vancouver. Mr. Cleere spent time working in the valuation and brokerage departments in Dublin before transferring to Vancouver in 2013 to join the property tax department as a consultant. Prior to that Mr. Cleere spent 4 years in Northumbria University, England where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Estate Management.
His real estate background will bring a benefit to the operations and continued growth of Adventus.
Ms. McFarlane joined Adventus in September 2018 and is responsible for managing the administrative, human resources, and IT services needs of Adventus.
Ms. McFarlane previously spent over 20 years working within a number of administrative and consulting roles at PwC. Ms. McFarlane spent time working as Executive Assistant, Billing Administrator, IT Help Desk member as well as consultant in the operational effectiveness and process improvement practices.
Her experience in all of these areas benefits Adventus in its continuous growth and future endeavors.
Ms. Woolley joined in November 2018 and is responsible for supporting Adventus from a corporate accounting perspective with financial and other reporting functions as well as treasury, accounting and taxation duties.
Ms. Woolley is a CPA candidate focused on finance and performance management and is expecting to earn her designation in September 2019. She started her accounting career in 2009, and prior to joining Adventus, Ms. Woolley gained a wide range of experience through her roles at Ardenton Capital Corporation, Replay Resorts, and Vaisala Canada.
Her experience and technical training in finance and accounting benefits Adventus as it continues to grow and expand its portfolio.
